Bingo, I’ve got a royal flush!!! There’s nothing you can do about that.
So, I’m sorry for you, today we’re not talking about poker with chips, but about the Poker Planning.
The Planning Poker is a tool that allows you to estimate the complexity of a task.
In practice, the Product Owner presents the topic, their ideas, and what they would like to see accomplished.
From there, the team estimates the difficulty based on different criteria to complete the task.
After the Product Owner has presented their idea and answered any questions, everyone takes a moment to think, then we reveal our cards at the same time.
When there’s a gap, we take the person who voted the lowest and the one who voted the highest, and ask them why they chose that card.
This is often where the essential information comes out.
In the end, Poker Planning isn’t a card game, it’s a tool that encourages dialogue and helps estimate the complexity of a task.
For me, my last Poker Planning session was 15 days ago. How about you, have you ever done one?
