The 3 Amigos

Does it ever happen in your team that a topic keeps bouncing back and forth between developers, POs, and QAs, just because the initial request was misunderstood? Let me tell you about the 3 Amigos.

The 3 Amigos is an Agile practice that aims to bring together 3 perspectives, 3 different points of view around the same idea.
The Product Owner brings the business vision, the Developer brings the technical expertise, and the QA brings product expertise and testing know-how.

Imagine an architect, a mason, and an inspector discussing together before laying the first brick of the construction site. Each one brings their expertise on a different part and fills in what the others cannot see. The result is fewer surprises, fewer do-overs, and above all, fewer back-and-forths.

In my team, doing this changed everything. Sometimes, a one-hour meeting with the three amigos saves us 5 to 10 hours of work, simply because we took the time to define the need together.

In summary, the 3 Amigos is a meeting that brings different points of view and different areas of expertise together to understand a need, clarify it, and potentially estimate it.
